My 3 Favorite Sites for Hacking the Coding Interview

This is so crazy, I saw this exact interview question in a Reddit sub r/dumbquestions. I’m totally gonna nail this.

I want you to succeed.

I get a lot of joy each time a mentee in my program or someone I’ve met online finally nails an interview and lands a job. I know that feeling. It’s like the world opens up. You wonder what else you’re capable of.

If you’re a software developer on the job hunt, here are 3 sites I highly recommend and have used for getting referrals and finding out what questions you might be asked in the interview to increase your chances of success.

Here are my 3 favorite sites to hack my next interview:

1. Blind.com: https://teamblind.com

Some people call this site the anti-LinkedIn. Be warned, there are a lot of tech bros and jerks on here but you’ll also find some very candid advice and feedback on your resume.

The best part — there are plenty of engineers from top companies to local start ups that are just looking to give referrals.

Why?

Well, they get paid if you get in.

Search for referral examples in previous posts and copy the good ones. If you’re feeling brave, post your resume and grab some popcorn… and maybe some tissues cuz these tech bros will not hold back.

FYI: you will need a company email in order to get on this site.

2. Glassdoor: https://www.glassdoor.com/

You’re probably more familiar with this site and if you’re not I hope you start using it to prepare for the next interview.

Once you have an interview lined up, go on Glassdoor, search for the company and check out the “interviews” section for your specific role.

You’d be shocked sometimes just how much information is shared here. 🤫

3. Linkedin (Duh)

I mean yeah, use LinkedIn but try this strategy:

Find the moderate influencers in your field. Click the bell icon next to their profile icon to get notified when they post.

Now, here’s the important part — be one of the first commenters on their post with a valuable comment (not simply a “I agree!”) — try and expand on their post.

Having a visible and valuable comment on a high engagement post will increase your followers and credibility. It’s also a lot easier to creep in their DMs when/if they hire. If nothing else, people (including recruiters) get more used to seeing your name. You’ve just gotten an expanded reach, credibility and influence simply by commenting in a targeted way.

Before You Leave

I want you to pass your interview by any (moral) means necessary!

I’m consistently shocked how many people don’t just ASK. You have a right to know what you’re interview format will be so you can prepare.

Try this:

“In order to best prepare, what information can you share about this interview? Will this be technical and if so, what tools should I have ready?”

Easy. Breezy.

Now passing them is another story….
